MCP CONNECTOR DOCUMENTATION

Bring your Libby lab record into AI conversations—read-only.

The Libby Health MCP server gives supported AI assistants structured, user-authorized access to the authenticated user's own record. It can read lab markers, trends, panels, and allergen IgE results; it cannot add, edit, or delete anything.

Libby organizes and returns recorded information. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace a licensed clinician.

SETUP

Connect Libby Health to your AI client

Start with the shared prerequisites, then follow the instructions for Claude or ChatGPT. The connection remains scoped to the Libby account that completes OAuth.

  1. Prepare your Libby account

Sign in to Libby Health and make sure at least one lab report has finished processing. Connector access requires full access through an active trial or paid membership.

  2. Choose your AI client

Use the Claude or ChatGPT instructions below. Both clients connect to the same public MCP server and require the same Libby OAuth authorization.

CLAUDE SETUP

Claude

  1. Open Customize → Connectors and select the plus button next to Connectors.
  2. Choose Libby Health from the directory. If it is not listed yet, select Add custom connector, enter “Libby Health,” and paste the MCP server URL below.
  3. Select Add or Connect, sign in to Libby Health, review the requested permissions, and approve OAuth.
  4. Start a new conversation and ask a specific question about a marker, trend, report, or allergen result.

CHATGPT SETUP

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode. If the option is unavailable, ask your workspace administrator to enable it.
  2. Open Settings → Plugins, or use the button below, and select the plus button to create a developer-mode app.
  3. Enter “Libby Health,” describe it as read-only access to your own lab record, paste the MCP server URL below, and select Create.
  4. Complete Libby OAuth. In a new chat, choose the plus button near the composer, select More, and add Libby Health to the conversation.

TOOL REFERENCE

Nine tools, all read-only

Every tool is marked read-only and idempotent. Tool results are scoped to the OAuth-connected user.

ping

Ping

Confirms that the authenticated connector is available.

list_markers

List markers

Lists markers in the connected record with the latest value, unit, flag, data-point count, and available lab reference range.

get_marker_history

Get marker history

Returns the time-ordered reading history for one or more marker identifiers.

search_markers

Search markers

Resolves a familiar or colloquial marker name to a catalog identifier and indicates whether the connected record has data.

check_allergen

Check allergen

Reports whether a specific allergen IgE test exists and, when tested, the recorded sensitization result.

list_allergen_sensitizations

List allergen sensitizations

Lists positive allergen IgE sensitizations and the aggregate number of allergen IgE tests in the record.

list_reports

List reports

Lists available lab reports and panels newest first, with dates and marker counts.

get_report

Get report

Returns one lab report or panel and its structured marker results.

get_profile

Get profile

Returns age in years and biological sex for age- and sex-dependent reference-range context; it never returns raw date of birth.

EXAMPLE PROMPTS

Start with a question about your record

  • Show my latest cholesterol results and their lab reference ranges.
  • How have my HbA1c and fasting glucose changed over time?
  • Summarize my most recent lab report and identify results outside the lab's ranges.
  • Was I tested for peanut IgE, and what did the result show?
  • Which allergen sensitizations are recorded in my account?

Reference ranges come from the lab record. When no range is available, the connector returns that absence instead of inventing a range. Ask a clinician to interpret results in the context of your health and care plan.

DATA & PRIVACY

A narrow, user-scoped data boundary

The connector can return

  • Lab marker values, units, flags, and lab reference ranges
  • Marker history and report or panel contents
  • Allergen IgE test availability and sensitization results
  • Age in years and biological sex for range context

The connector does not return

  • Uploaded documents or images
  • Account credentials, name, email, address, or raw date of birth
  • Internal database identifiers or proprietary target bands
  • Write, edit, upload, or delete capabilities

Tool results are sent to the connected AI service only after the user completes OAuth and the service invokes a tool for the conversation. Review the Libby Health app privacy policy and the privacy and data controls of the AI service you connect before using personal health data.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Common connection issues

The connector or app does not appear or will not connect

Confirm that your Libby account has full access. Sign in to Libby in the same browser, then remove and reconnect Libby in your AI client. In ChatGPT, also confirm that Developer mode is enabled and refresh the app metadata after server changes.

The AI assistant returns no markers or reports

Make sure at least one lab report has finished processing in Libby. The connector can only return data already present in the connected account.

A marker or report is not found

Try a familiar marker name first, or ask the assistant to list available reports. Results are limited to the connected user's record.

Can an AI assistant change my record?

No. This connector exposes no create, update, upload, or delete tool. Record changes must be made inside Libby Health.
